Can a young female singer-songwriter make an impact amid all the teen dancing queens? That's the question facing Sedona, Arizona, native Michelle Branch who shares a label imprint and certain vocal phrasings with Alanis Morissette. Branch managers are hoping that her single "Everywhere" will indeed be everywhere but the second track, "You Got Me" is a more moving song about finding a soul mate. She's searching for a sound and style of her own, so parts of "The Spirit Room" get flattered by some nondescript rock production from vet producer John Shanks. Brach probably won't change the musical tides single-handedly, but her natural style and love of songwriting is a welcome change of pace, even if both need a little refining.
